Location and Getting There

Salt Creek Recreation Area is located in the Cascades Mountains in Washington State. It is situated on Camp Hayden Road, just west of Port Angeles.


To visit Salt Creek Recreation Area from Seattle, the easiest option is to take the Bainbridge Ferry to Bainbridge Island and then drive towards the Olympic Peninsula before taking WA-104 W to WA-112 W. Finally, take this to Tongue Point Park Road then turn onto Camp Hayden Road.


From Spokane, take Highway 90 west for about three and a half hours, passing through Ellensburg and Tacoma on the way.


Finally, from Portland, Oregon, follow I-5 and US-101 north.

Visiting Salt Creek Recreation Area offers an abundance of recreational activities for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. From fishing and boating on the lake to camping and picnicking, there is something for everyone to enjoy.


Shore Diving

Shore diving is an incredibly popular activity along the banks of the Salt Creek Recreation Area. visitors come from around the country to explore the underwater world, sighting sea urchins, anemones, sea cucumbers, and much more.


If you've been to the Salt Creek Campground area, you'll know that there are staircases that lead down to the shore that provides easy access.


Tidepooling

If the tide is low, tidepooling at Salt Creek Recreation Area along Crescent Beach is also quite popular. Many of the ocean's most incredible creatures can be found along the shores of the beach. If you're lucky, you might spot a whale while you're there too.

Hiking and Biking

The nearby trails offer miles of hiking and biking opportunities. The area also features a disc golf course, an off-leash dog park, a shooting range, and plenty of open space to explore. There are also plenty of picnic areas available throughout the park where visitors can rest and take in the scenic views.



When to Go

Visiting Salt Creek Recreation Area is best during the warm summer months when the weather is pleasant and the days are long. However, the campground is open year-round and the area can offer a peaceful winter getaway as well.


During the summer, you’ll find plenty of activities to do at Salt Creek Recreation Area, like hiking, fishing, camping, and more. In the winter, you can enjoy snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

Camping at Salt Creek Campground

The very large Salt Creek Campground is part of the larger Salt Creek Recreation Area. It has many spots for RVs and even a few tent-only campsites overlooking the ocean. If you've never been to the area before, this is a fantastic option. Most of the sights are reservable, but others are first-come-first-serve, so there's a chance to get a spot even if you haven't booked ahead of time.
