This gorgeous riverside park is one of the best options for outdoor recreation in central Washington, especially if you're looking for some amenities.

The park is named after the Wanapum tribe, Native Americans who have historically lived in this region. The nearby Wanapum Heritage Center provides insight into the tribe's culture and history.


It is part of the Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park and offers a beautiful setting on the banks of the Columbia River. It's sometimes referred to as Wanapum State Park, but it's not technically a state park.

Wanapum Recreation Area

The park is situated near the Wanapum Dam, offering splendid views of the Columbia River and the surrounding landscape. It has over 27,000 feet of shoreline to explore and features boat launches, picnic areas, and much more.


It's closely located to the better-known Gingko Petrified Forest State Park, a 7,000+ acre state park where you can see the rare Ginkgo trees discovered there in 1932.


They have interpretive information centers in the park to give you more insight into this historic area.
